Racine Literacy Council (RLC) is a 501c(3) charitable nonprofit organization that provides an array of services that allow Racine County residents to attain their full potential and to be engaged citizens. These services include, but are not limited to, Adult Basic Education, English Language Learning, Family Literacy, Workplace Culture and Literacy, Financial Literacy, Digital Literacy, Citizenship, Refugee Resettlement Support and Driver’s Education Preparation. RLC’s vision is that every person in Racine County has the literacy skills and confidence to live the life they dream.
RLC provides these services through an intricate team of professional staff, contracted instructors and volunteers.
Requirements
Family Literacy Program Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a member of the program team and works closely with the Executive Director and Family Literacy Coordinator to analyze the needs of RLC’s adult students and prospective students and their children to create, implement and maintain programs that meet their needs throughout Racine County.
Works and communicates effectively with the Family Literacy Coordinator and other staff to recruit families and volunteer tutors for the program.
Works well with parents and children and is responsive to their needs.
Collaborates well with multiple partners, including schools and organizations who refer families.
Helps to build community among staff, tutors, interns and families with regular activities that also build literacy skills.
Works closely with the Family Literacy Coordinator and Bilingual Executive Assistants to keep student and tutor databases up to date.
Assists in generating reports concerning families, tutors and classes to satisfy funder requirements.
With the aid of partners, helps to refer families to outside agencies who can assist them in growth beyond their literacy needs.
Represents Racine Literacy Council in the community, at professional association events, fairs, volunteer recruitment events, and other events deemed relevant to advancing the work of the organization.
Eagerly attends local and national professional development opportunities to enhance personal growth.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Family Literacy Coordinator.
Qualifications
College degree, current study or experience in Education, Social Work or similar field that may be applicable to the job.
Demonstrates responsiveness and sensitivity to cultural differences.
Experience working with volunteers, parents and children.
Experience and enthusiasm in collaborating with a broad range of organizations.
Ability to work collaboratively and independently on a diverse range of tasks.
Accurate record-keeping abilities; detail-oriented administrative abilities.
Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize activities and projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office.
Reporting
This position reports to the Executive Director and Family Literacy Coordinator.
This is a 20-hour/week, part-time position and requires weekday afternoon and Saturday work.
